Angelina Jolie will join one of London’s most prestigious schools to give lectures for the new Master’s course on women’s rights, peace, and security.
The actress-turned-director will be there for the 2016-2017 school year.
The Master’s course, which is the world’s first course of this kind, was launched in 2015 by Angelina Jolie and the U.K.’s former foreign secretary, William Hauge. Hauge will also give lectures as a visiting professor.
Angelina Jolie is set to deliver lectures on women’s rights and gender equality, take part in workshops and public events around London, and contribute her efforts to research on these two issues.
In her most recent statement to the London School of Economics’ students, Angelina Jolie said she was delighted the school is offering such a Master’s program this year. The actress and wife of actor Brad Pitt also said she hoped other educational institutional would follow suit and include programs like this as well.
Angelina Jolie also argued in the statement that it’s of utmost importance in the modern world to hold the discussion on how to advance women’s rights, put an end to gender inequality, as well as end impunity for such crimes against women as sexual violence.
In fact, a Washington-based academic institution has already voiced its interest in setting up a similar course. The Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security Ambassador, Melanne Verveer, said in a statement that she was pleased to meet with Angelina Jolie during one of her trips to the U.K.’s capital.
