A BAYELSAN WOMAN EXCHANGE HER CHILD FOR A BAG OF GARRI



Bayelsa state is purely a Civil Servant state and most of the indigenes solemnly depends on the state government for their salary. The state has no industry and well recognized company that can employ up to 500 workers, even the oil companies and their refineries are not situated in the state. Due to this reason the citizens of the state depends on the state government for work.

The State Government claims that due to the late endorsement of the federal budget challenge, affect workers from being paid for about 8 months, so the issue of survival becomes very hard. Money was not circulating in the state and this was the cause of  many unbelievable incidents across the state.


The effect of the current government have also contributed greatly to the price hike of  products and this is due to the increase of transportation fare “The vehicles for hire to transport the products to the markets have equally increased their charges because of incessant scarcity and increase in the price of fuel as well as the bad roads”.



Hunger has devastating and far-reaching effects, just like in the Bible days were two women agree to eat their own children of hunger Hunger kills more people every year than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis. Under nutrition contributes to the deaths of 2.6 million every year. Poor nutrition causes almost half of deaths in the world. A woman who out of hunger took her child alongside with her to the market, on getting negotiate with  a garri seller the price of garri, after an agreement was made for the garri, the woman said to the garri seller that she forgot her money in the house and she said she is not live far away, so she left her child with the woman and told her that she isl coming back soon with her money and then she left leaving the child under the custody of the garri seller, the woman did not show up again until evening, the garri seller kept asking after the woman in the market everywhere until a woman identify the child because she know the parents and she said ‘this pikin na here you dey, wey your mother”, then the garri seller begged her to take her to the mother of child. She led the garri seller to the other woman’s home; on getting there she said that she did that because she not have money to pay her and the hungry wants to finish her and family and that she planned to take back her child once she pay.
